Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) was formerly known as NITIE Mumbai. IIM Mumbai, established by the Government of India in 1963, is a postgraduate institute with 60 faculty members and 1000 students, all of whom are first-class engineers. Dedicated to enhancing the global presence of Indian businesses, IIM Mumbai aims to be a driving force not only in the manufacturing sector but also in all dynamic sectors of the Indian economy. The institute has aligned its vision and activities with the current and future needs of the Indian economy and its vibrant and growing sectors.
Offering full-time Post Graduate programs in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Management, Industrial Safety, and Environmental Management, IIM Mumbai conducts training programs for industry continuously throughout the year. It has signed 25 MoUs in recent years with international and national institutes, as well as several Indian industries.
Environmental considerations are increasingly integral to core business planning today. The Environmental Engineering and Management group at IIM Mumbai provides the much-needed skills for businesses, with a strong research focus. The group’s dedicated faculty interacts with industry to provide insights into several areas, including waste management.
IIM Mumbai took the lead in creating the Industrial Safety and Environmental Management program in 2000, the first of its kind in India. This unique program addresses the industry’s needs comprehensively, incorporating safety, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship issues.
The Centre for Environmental Studies was also established with a clear focus on research initiated in November 2009. The objectives of the center were to carry out research in the areas of ecosystems management, business and sustainability development, and environmental policy-making in Phases I and II. Research facilities, including laboratories, exist within the center. Several faculty members, IIM Mumbai students, staff, and students from other institutes are involved in research work.
Role in the project
On the basis of the expertise gained through handling number of projects in the areas of research and consultancy based projects for industries, IIM Mumbai will lead the WP5 on sustainability from Indian side. Further it will co-lead the pilots 4 and 9 from Indian side in WP2 and WP3.
